"Classic" Translation

Art Spectrum Miami, December 2-6, 2015, booth # S1116 (Art Fair parallel to Art Basel Miami). In these paintings I manipulate visual language of “Classic” artworks of old and modern masters. My work fuses abstract expressionism with pictographic forms. I decided to take on my very favorite classic works from art history and “translate” them into my own visual language. I spent some time on dissecting of the original works and literally simplify and stylize them into solid two-dimensional icons. Bold pictographic forms serve as the base ingredient for painting. Composing solid black icons with organic gestural brushwork engaging the viewer with elements of depth and emotion. In other words, shapes and the color celebrate the original composition while new take bend its reality and speaks its new translation.
